Fish Tugs of the Greatest Lake
SPARTA
SPARTA Built by Sturgeon Bay Boat Works, and launched in February 1936 when the temperature was 22 degrees below zero. The 42 ft. x 12 ft. vessel was owned by Gus Koulentis of Waukegan, IL, and equipped with a 45-54 Kahlenberg oil engine. The tug was taken on a short trial run through some exceptionally heavy ice shortly after it was launched.
